The Space

Soil + Soul Collective began as a simple idea—
a patch of underutilized land and a desire to create something meaningful.

What started as a personal project has grown into a thoughtfully stewarded garden space rooted in connection, learning, and shared experience.

Located in Atlanta, this is an open, evolving space where people are invited to gather, grow food, exchange knowledge, and reconnect—with the land, with each other, and with themselves.

At its core, Soil + Soul Collective is about more than growing food.

It’s about slowing down.
Getting your hands in the soil.
Learning as we go.
And creating something real—together.

The Mission

To create a welcoming, personally stewarded garden space where people can grow food, share knowledge, and reconnect with the land, each other, and themselves. We believe that tending soil together builds stronger communities and healthier lives. Everyone is welcome, regardless of experience, background, or how much time they can give."

A couple of notes on the original: I removed the em dash before "with the land" since you prefer to avoid them, replacing it with a plain space so it reads cleanly. If you'd rather keep a pause there, a comma works too: "reconnect, with the land, each other, and themselves.

I come from a long line of farmers, gardeners, and plant lovers—but that knowledge wasn’t passed down to me. That’s how life works sometimes.

My name is Leah Crawford, and I’m the founder of Soil + Soul Collective.

For years, this idea lived quietly in the background—on my vision board, in my thoughts—waiting for the right moment to take root. The only problem? I had never kept a plant alive. Not a garden, not even a single pot. I used to call myself a serial houseplant killer.

So who was I to start a community garden?

That question came up often. So did the doubt.

But underneath all of that, there was something louder: a knowing that this was bigger than me.

So I started anyway.

Because in the world we’re living in, we need spaces for joy. For connection. For learning. For growth. And I trusted that I could learn the “how” along the way.

And somehow, almost overnight, I became exactly what I never thought I could be—an urban farmer.

The vision is simple, at least for now.

This is a garden built to connect—with neighbors, with community, with the land. A place to share food, to learn from one another, to gather, and to create something meaningful together. A space where knowledge is shared freely, where people are invited in, and where everyone can exhale a little.

Soil + Soul Collective was born from that intention.

Maybe it’s a passion project. Maybe it’s purpose. Maybe it’s just a leap of faith that turned into something real.

What I do know is this: it comes from the heart.

Soil—for growth. Not just for plants, but for the people who step into this space.
Soul—for nourishment that goes deeper than the surface. The kind that feeds something within.

All are welcome here—so long as everyone is treated with respect.
